  • On September 1, 1939, Hitler attacked Poland from the west, and seventeen days later, in collusion with Nazi Germany (the Hitler-Stalin Pact) the Soviet Union invaded Poland from the east.

    In 1940, after my father was arrested and sent to gulag, my American born mother and I were deported to Atbasar in nothern Kazakhstan, where we spent two years in the gulag, enduring cold, hunger and slave labor.

  • My father spent many years in Gulag. I remember, as a child, taking that long train trip to visit him. I've heard many stories of the harsh conditions and suffering in Gulag.
